I am thrilled to be a member of the People's Movement Center. I am a certified massage therapist and practitioner of Swedish and Deep Tissue bodywork, and incorporate techniques of Barnes' Myofascial Release. I also teach a muay thai/body movement class at PMC. Long before I became a bodyworker, I was a community organizer advocating for social justice, asserting individual and community ownership to what happens in our communities and to our bodies.
"Healing justice" to me means that we all have the right to heal from the physical, emotional, historical, and spiritual traumas that have accumulated in our mind, body, spirit and community. What I feel I can contribute to this is the healing effect of thoughtful and intentional touch and ways to reconnect with our bodies. Working the natural toxins out of our systems via massage is symbolic of releasing the environmental toxins and stresses (emotional and physical) we experience daily.
I strive to provide efficient and effective massages to allow your body to relax and function at its best. I continue to educate myself in multiple modalities to provide options and best strategies for restoring your body's flow. I often use a combination of techniques based on your body's needs.:
Swedish Massage - This is the most common western massage style. Known for its long flowing strokes intertwined with the rolling and kneading of muscles, Swedish massage increases circulation and reduces tension in the body.
Deep Tissue Therapeutic Massage - Often misunderstood as a technique that requires deep painful pressure, Deep Tissue massage is defined as a slow and specific technique that facilitates access to your body's deeper layers of muscles, connective tissue, and fascia.
Barnes' Myofascial Release- John F Barnes has developed a specific technique for myofascial release (MFR). Fascia surrounds all structures in our bodies - nerves, muscles, bones, veins, everything down to the cellular level. Because fascia surrounds every structure of our body, any restrictions in our fascia will pull throughout the rest of our body as if you were pulling a thread from a sweater which can cause pain over time. Barnes' MFR technique uses a firm but light sustained pressure that stretches the fascia to release throughout the body. MFR can be right for anyone.
Kickboxing / Body Movement (group session) - I have over 10 years experience training in complimentary martial arts, including three years of teaching at a local school. My primary art is Muay Thai (Thai Kickboxing) which I teach as a means for participants to connect with their body. The class is for all levels, and I love working with beginners. 30 Minute Session ($40-20) - focus on 1 area of your body
60 Minute Session ($70-40) - focus on 1-2 areas of body or very basic full body
